I've had my Zune for a few months. I did the 80GB upgrade. I got board. I ripped it apart and installed 2 80GB Toshiba MK8009GAH hard drives Grin !!!! Yep!! 160GB in a Zune. I can go back and forth between them with a switch on the side. I'm in the process of making up some PCB boards to make it easer to install. Here is a link to see a video of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHPcwhgzxlo
If anyone is interested let me know.

nice, and I like how you managed to integrate that second drive. I guess since only one drive is working at any given time it doesn't get lower playtimes.

As you can see I had to modify the cables and the hard drives to get this thing to work. That is why I'm making a jumper board to do this. There will be no need to modify (cut or re-solder) any cables or  hard drives. Just connect the zune HD cable to the board and the board to the 2 hard drives. These boards should be done next week!!!!!

Try checking your cable to the hard drive. Make sure the contacts on the cable line up with the pins on the hard drive. Heres a picture looking at the end of the hard drive. Take a look (maybe with a Magnifying Glass) to make sure their lined up.

Nice!

I dunno if it would be possible, but if I had the those kinda modding skills, I'd make it so the hd is somewhat detachable and make a lid or w/e. That way it would be so bulky.  Tongue

But still, nice job. Smiley

Thanks. Yeah, I thought about that too. The problem is the cable for the hard drive. It is only .20 mm (1/125") thick. You can't really keep plugging it in and out. As for the case, I just threw it together. It's about 8mm (1/3") thicker than the origional. I am making some boards PCB so there will be no need for soldering or anything like that. I'm also looking into making a new back half of the plastic case.   Grin
