April 19 2007 Microsoft filed the following patent. It reveals a vision of XBOX Live expanded onto the Zune and PC in a single unified network: Multi-component gaming system Abstract http://www.zunescene.com/game-zune/

What I see Microsoft shooting for is a PMP that is more game-centric. If this is the case we may see a full-blown XBox portable gaming companion pretty soon, and if Microsoft does it right, it'll trounce the PSP in every possible sense, if this is at all a hard thing to do anyway. But what I also see is Microsoft slowly abandoning its direct campaign against Apple, and instead aiming to draw more people into the XBox Live crowd. Let's face it, if Microsoft starts going towards a gamer world for the Zune, it will veer off from the iPod parallel, unless they intend to maintain the presence of a "gameless" version of their Zune line, similar to the current trojan horse mockup. I'd love a portable XBox media device, and I'd most definitely get one when it's released.....if the price is right.

Actually what would be ideal is that Apple and Microsoft collaborate to bring down the Sony juggernaut. Think of stylish design with good programming and the resources of Xbox and the Live network and price it at $150.00 and people will play Halo until their feet break off

Well Sony's fate is uncertain, though I still have an issue with buying these next gen consoles because of hard drives and so forth. I miss the old days of simple stick-a-disc or cartridge n' play devices.

I miss the old days of simple stick-a-disc or cartridge n' play devices. Yes, in fact, Sony's update for the PS3 is simply to add larger hard drives but no added functionality to their PS3. I think that seriously it would be nice to play the games off a hard drive or something easier to deal with. Carts and discs are pretty much harder to deal with relative to a plug and download the game.

No, I don't think people would care for game content being relegated completely to computer files. Hard disc media for games is just as essential as hard disc media for those big expensive software suites we covet right now. Not to be mean, but if the PSP is the best looking device ya got, you must have some fugly gizmos 'roun' yo' crib.

They're already testing the waters a bit, and they even filed a patent involving the ATV's integration with other entertainment center hardware, which means options of all kinds of component additions to your set up (which also means being able to watch your BR or HDDVD or PVR through the ATV interface)

that would be awesome and dangerous at the same time... I can see Apple overtaking sony someday.

It means that Zunes will be able to reproduce with each other, spawning a race of sentient PMP's.
Note the diagram, you clearly see a nebula of energy giving birth to the consoles, which in turn give birth to the superintelligent Zunes.
