I think we are all a bunch of techno-weenies. I could care less about apple/ipod. Just give us zune owners awesome firmware updates. I keep my zune running all day on the stereo. I would rather dock my PMP instead of rubbing  fingers all over the screen.

I don't see why people are so hard up for firmware updates, when third-party development to revolve around the product matters a great deal more. The company that builds these devices don't answer nearly as many needs as the software and accessory developers that create tools and gizmos around them.

The reason why some of us are focusing on the firmware is because the Zune is locked down tight.  The only way to get new function, enhanced function, expanded function is through firmware.  That was MS' decision. 

In contrast, WindowsMobile smartphones are "open".  I can develop applications that extend and improve the capabilities of my phone.
