I hate all three. Mostly I say pop. But I try to say "beverage" whenever I can.

Soda.. since it's short for soda pop, which is short for carbonated soft drinks. Pop makes it sound like you're talking about your dad, and Coke is a particular type of soda..
no wonder nobody understands one another ...

well in Illinois we say mostly pop but i have used soda a few times or soda pop. Also where i am from you call any dark colored pop a coke. like if i went into a restaurant and they only had pepsi products i wouldn't say can i get a pepsi i would just say i will have a coke.

I only drink diet, so when I'm out I just ask for a diet soda since it's a 50/50 whether you're going to get Coke or Pepsi.
Saves the waiter/waitress from having to ask me if the one they have is "ok" with me.
