well maybe they took out the EQ because it now supports lossless? You know, with high quality earphones, the EQ isn't needed. Plus, at times, it screws up the songs........Oh god help me!
ya for ppl who dont know how to set it How can you not know how to set a preset-only EQ? It can screw up songs; it can add distortion. I prefer high end ear phones myself. Not using the EQ keeps things balanced.

and the EQ feature has been removed.
What. The. Hell.
I just read that too. WTF!! No EQ, how is the possible. The sound better be well adjusted for my Shure e2c. I just picked up a new Zune 4. The sound with my E2c's could be a lot better. The Shures have plenty of volume, but the sound quality is questionable. I'm hoping that the premium buds will sound better. Otherwise I'm SOL. We NEED an eq.

An EQ is beneficial regardless of how good buds you have. At default a device is adjusted so that it sounds reasonable using all speakers, headphones and ear buds.
If you're using some very expensive $300 ear buds you might feel that the default setting offer too little bass and that your buds are capable of coping with much more without distorting the sound. That's when en EQ comes in hand. All ear buds, headphones and speakers don't have the same characteristic and with an EQ you can adjust the sound to get the best out of your headphones or what ever. Neither are all songs the same, sometimes the sound is too flat and you want to emphasize the high a bit, and sometimes you want to turn down the low a bit.
I have a high end 2.1 Altec Lansing sound system hooked up to my creative audigy 2 sound card and when I have adjusted the EQ the sound is amazing.
So please people, stop saying that an EQ isn't necessary if you have good headphones, because that is totally untrue. Those who say it clearly haven't dealt with a good EQ and might not have as sensitive ears as mine. For some, what ever comes out of the device is good.

It is too bad that Zune's team left out an EQ. I personally don't use EQ and perhaps will never use EQ. I also have headphone amp in between the player and ear phones. It sounds fantastic. But, Zune designer should allow the customer to choose what they want as far as EQ. Off, on, preset, etc... Having Zune's team decided that no customer will need an EQ is just plain WRONG!!!
while we're at it. Why is it so hard to a clock and date on Zune? NOOOOO, just look at your cell phone..

Why do so many people think these "premium" headphones will magically make the sound better? They aren't that good. They're better than standard pack in headphones, but you think they'll be better than a pair of Shures? You're in for a disappointment.

MS marketing department has clearly done their job by using the word "premium", making people believe the ear buds are som fancier than what they really are.
I have yet to use them but I doubt that they are as good as the MS wants me to believe they are.

I just know that they are better than Apple's headphones, probably, not as great as a 3rd party earphone.

I've had the Zune Premium earbuds and currently have Shure E2C's earbuds. I think I should know the difference.

Then your ears are broken. There's no way the pack in headphones sound better than the IEMs from a decent quality company.
