It's ironic, since my decision was essentially dubbed a worthless hard to use product.

I didn't say that. And are we talking specifically about macs? I believe that you did. As you said that your choice was the worthwhile and easier product to use, obviously the subject of this thread would be the opposite. I could've very well posted this in the conversion thread, but I haven't checked, nor do I actually care if an update was released for Windows, thus I placed this thread where I thought it belongs, in the iPod/Mac thread. Part of the reason I felt this update is noteworthy is because it shuts out all previous versions of Mac OS prior to Leopard. Since we are talking about an update to a piece of software for Mac, Cucusoft is totally useless, because there is no OS X port for it, so for those on the Mac side, Cucusoft is not a worthwhile product. For matters of payware as a substitute for HandBrake, the better choice of DVD ripper for Mac would be iSkysoft DVD to iPod converter, which is Mac only. But HandBrake is still a very worthwhile product because it is generally successful, but on top of that, it's also fast, well designed and very easy to use with its various preset profiles while being absolutely free, gratis, no dinero requirio gracias.

Nice reply Kaiser. Cucusoft is the best for PC though, I haven't found a free on that worked well.

Here's a good guide for DVD ripper software. It's from January 2007, but I'm sure these are very much viable options today. http://consumerguidesblog.com/top3dvdtoipodconverters08.html

moral of this thread: best DVD ripper for mac = Handbrake (but it sucks on the PC side) best DVD ripper for PC (for XP at least, I don't have vista) = DVD decryptor. AND it's free. http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/

DVD Decrypter is free, and the best free ripper out there. Cucusoft is good, but $30

No, I tried DVD Decrypter before I had CuCuSoft and it took 3 1/2 hours to convert a DVD.
