Nice. It's unfortunate though that the standard Macbook doesn't even have the option for an LED backlight. I can understand that a standard LED display would drive up the cost, but being able to opt for one would be great (I'd pay the extra coin to get it). Also, it seems that the same old Powerbook case remains unchanged, so the user-replaceable hard drive is out. Say what you will, but that sucks, and my MB's case design remains superior.

Agreed the HD on the MBP needs to be easily accessible. As far as the MB not having an LED, that is really half of the story. I never like the MB's personally I think the extra boost you get from the MBP is a must.  I have been throughly impressed with the expandablilty of the MBP I have. I think Apple needs to have a 500 gig option for MBP's that is at least 7200 RPM and ditch the pathetic 4200 rpm 300 gig option.  7200 rpm 500 gig is out there, it's pricey, but it makes more sense to me than getting a rediculous 4200 rpm. Any way I also noticed the Apple remote is no longer standard and now is a $20 upgrade, lame.

I prefer the MB mainly because of its size, and despite lacking the cool backlit keyboard, doesn't catch nearly as much crud as the MBP's would. The form factor and overall power is a really good balance for me, so I was hoping that a few of the goodies of the top-end line would filter down, namely the LED display. I currently use a rev A Macbook, so right now I still sport the old GMA 950 integrated chipset, and I can't say that it's ever really affected me much, since all I use is Photoshop CS3 and such.

As for the Apple remote no longer being a freebie, that's just rediculous, but as one who now owns three of them because they came free with my other purchases (they still come free with the iPod Universal Dock), I could go without more when I upgrade my computers. XD

I'm not sure very many people actually used them... The remotes, that is.

Yeah I imagine a lot of users won't notice or care, only us blog people and early adopters Tongue

After looking around forums like Macrumors and such, it became apparent that a lot of people, after purchasing multiple macs for themselves, found that you can end up with an excess of useless Apple remotes, myself included.

I have 2 remotes and I use them constantly. you've seen my setup with the remote attached to the wall with a magnet.  I use that for iTunes constantly.  I can see myself accumulating a ton of those though.

I only have one Intel mac, but I can't see myself using multiple remotes, but I do keep the spares tucked away in the computer bag just in case I lose the one in use or it breaks. I don't pair them with the computer, so I'd pretty much be using the same remote for everything.

All those upgrades left me wanting a Pro. But when I set up my recording studios (about a couple years from now hopefully lol) there are definitely gonna be some Macs in there. I could care less about the remote. Heck, I lost the remote on my HP months ago and I didn't even notice.

Anyway, anyone notice a trend with Apple and upgrades?

I like the pro, but for an average teenager the pro is too expensive, which is why I want a regular Macbook...

I don't think they'd go with a 30" iMac unless they pulled a tweaks to get rid of the extra bulk in the bezel. Imagine how large a 30" iMac would be with that fat border, and especially that chin. It would have to look more like the Apple Cinema Display so that it's not too much larger even if it has more real estate.

I've got 4 apple remotes myself, and like Kaiser, only use one for the living room when using frontrow for the mac mini.. DVD/iTunes playback, etc.

as far as the MBP and MB's, they are sweet indeed. Looks like a strong year for upgrades already, combined with lower comparable prices, makes it that much sweeter for 1st time mac buyers.
