To all,
a few things:
1. yes, the link for my original hack is dead. i pulled it when i received a nastygram from M$, politely asking me to do so. Actually, they were not polite about it, but I complied.
2. Stop emailing me and asking me for the hack. I will not respond.
3. If you do have the hack in place. I highly recommend you remove it and get a fresh install of the zune software before Nov 13th. I fear you'll have issues with running the new zune software when it is deployed.

I don't know why everyone is still asking about this hack. It works, but not very well(hell, i don't even use it!). People get different problems, and it's all dependent on what codecs you have installed. And what kind of files you're trying to convert.

everyone should just invest in a decent converter. I have been using WinAVI for a long time on love it.

Will you add avi support and divx/xvid or only avi? And how do you do this, could you please tell us more?

If you're way is easier, then please let us know, but for now it's been working for me.

Is it me, but this method still requires 2 convets one to make the avi/xvid/divx and the second to wmv, but ig you are talking a free way to convert pre existing avi/xvid/divx nevermind . javascript:void(0);

With my hack, you don't have to rename files over and over again.
You just open the Zune Software and see your avi files. Can't get much simpler than that.

so could you give a step by step on what this process is? i dont want to mess up or anything.

*claps* As soon as you click the reg. it applys it and next time you open Zune Player it well add all the Avi videos! You cant play it on the player though just plugin your Zune and it Syncs! I deleted most of my Avi from the library it took to much space so yeah.. I uploaded it and watched it on my Zune thanks so much.. You must be good at programing and stuff. Can you work on this more and make it so it can add mpgs ogms etc doing this same process?

now, if you redownload the file, there's a separate reg file for mpg support.

cool. i tried it and it works just perfectly. the zune recognizes it and starts to convert it. saves me a bunch of time converting to .wmv/.mp4 and THAN converting again in the zune. good find. kudos to you.

YES, your work is awesome man. Believe me, this is definately not going unseen...many people like me, didn't or don't have accounts, but still search these boards and have used this...i made this account just because i thought you should know that this is very appreciated...so don't stop. i have the feeling that your not just doing this for everyone else, but that you want your own zune to have these capabilities, haha, so thanks, and keep it up, it's going beautiful so far.

Thanks! This is excellent. Grin

This will hopefully save many zune owners from purchasing conversion software if they manage come here first.  Wink

Ok KingJehu....with all the positive responses I finally went ahead and downloaded your registry file, which I was skeptical about doing, and merged it.  It works great!  It is faster and more efficient then renaming all the files to .wmv and trying to sync it that way.  Thanks for your work and great job!

Great job KingJehu! Looks like you and me were both trying to do the same thing. Glad you came out with an easier approach. Keep up the good work! My method of renaming the files was something I just happened to stumble upon. Your solution is much more elegant.

I did what you did and it worked great, but the video quality became real low.  Is this the same for everyone?

You can modify the conversion settings (which might help) in the Options -> Advanced dialog. It's kinda hidden.  Wink
