For me it's CounterStrike : Source... (and also CS 1.6)
Then I'd say Day Of Defeat and Day Of Defeat : Source...
And Battlefield 1942 (still playing with my friends and still fun to play), Unreal Tournament (who never played the original UT...)

Halo girl... lucky.
Half Life and Halo are pretty much all the FPS you need. Best PC FPS + Best Console FPS = You're set. Halo 2 is still played a metric ton and who doesn't like CS (be it 1.6 or Source).
1.6 please. I've never really dug source. I guess so much of my life was speant in 1.6 it's hard to move on! hahaha.

:w-hat from Halo nominators: To me I have had nothing as fun as playing Red Faction on the PS2. The story was pretty chill and the geo-mod environments was a nice frosting on the cake. I can play that game over and over and not be bored.
Medal Of Honor: Allied Assaults also gets up there

Looking at what's already posted here, guess I am taking it new school. Gears of War has been hella fun. Fast moving game that really inspires some hectic close combat fighting. Great fun.
I also highly recommend Rainbow 6: Vegas, complete opposite of GoW, in that it really emphasizes a slower strategy oriented thinking. The play lends itself to long distance fighting as more weapons can snipe you and you'll never know what hit you. Also the customizing of players or PEC ( aka Persistent Elite Creation ) is a very nice touch.
I'd follow that then with Halo 2.

has to be call of duty one for both single and multi
the series has been down the drain with 3 and 2 was good but lacked the refinement that one had

Perfect Dark for the N64 and Quake III for the PC. F.E.A.R is also pretty good.

There's no definite answer, but for me, it's a close one between Quake III Arena, PerfectDark64, GoldenEye64, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life (1&2), the old Rainbow Six games (Vegas was good too, but after R63, the games went downhill), and anything out of the DOOM series.
