How many bad decisions can one person make?
Zune tats and now an ipod classic? The one microsoft PMP that has apple beat (zune 80>>>>>ipod classic) and he goes with the inferior product.
I'm as critical of MS' zune strategy as anyone, but in the area of large capacity PMPs MS has one of the best if not the best players (problem is its a small market, most ppl own nano like devices). The ipod classic is so dated and has a tiny screen.
If you got a touch i would have said way to expand your horizons, but yet again you make a stupid choice.

I have three iPods -- a 60GB 5G, a 1G Nano. and a shuffle. But why would you ever buy a Classic? If I were buying an iPod now, I would definitely buy a 16GB or 32GB Touch from the Apple refurb store. The iPod Classic is old tech. Actually, I wouldn't buy an iPod at all right now so close to Apple's annual refresh which occurs around September - October. Even if you don't need the latest and greatest, you can get great deals on previous generation iPods right around the time the new ones are announced. I bought my 60GB 5G iPod for $199 from Apple when the 30GB iPod 5.5G was selling for $249.00.
As far as the iPod's reliability, if only 1% of all iPods ever sold were defective (a very acceptable failure rate), that would still be 1.6 Million defective units. Are you really willing to say that 21,000 Zunes weren't defective -- i.e. 1% of 2.1 million?
As far as the "database encryption" on the current generation iPods, It does have simple database integrity checking, but by definition, you can't have any sort of decent encryption when the client has access to the means of decryption.

Why the Classic over a Touch mszunefan?
Because I have a lot of music and videos, and paying $50 or more for less storage made little to no sense. I don't need slow hard to use internet browser, weather or stocks in the palm of my hand.

You really think the internet on the iPod Touch is hard to use? And WiFi is slow?

Ah well, get a year or two out of it and see what's on the market next. I know there's a lot of hate for the Classic from everyone, but it's still a nice player, and in a year or two, when flash prices have dropped some more there'll be lots of options for large capacity flash players.

You do realize that every one that has ever reviewed the Touch and the iPhone has said the browser is the best browser on a portable device?

You know what is portable and has an even better browser, a laptop. If I wanted a PMP to do everyting under the moon I would say darn it and buy a laptop. But saying it has the best browser for anything of its kind is like saying it got Gold in the special olympics. And believe me there are much better cellphones that can browse the internet and it didn't take them a full year to finally get a 3G network

HTC Mogul - has a full qwerty keyboard and full browser support, also has wifi and a 3G capabilites

Why does it matter if the phone has more features if it's still hard to use?
Thermal Multi-Touch Screen.
I would rather have the ability of the App store and all the stuff Apple has put into the iPhone over the HTC, which will have less accessories, updates and support than the iPhone will.
