I dont know if this has been covered already in the forums but from what topics I've read it seems a lot of people are finding it difficult to organise their videos within the set 'Music Videos' 'Movies' etc on their Zune. Also everyones using a mix of programs to edit tags (tigotago, wmattributeeditor, zmeta etc). No problem but bear in mind that I use TigoTago so things might be slightly different from what I've written here, in terms of where you find each tag to edit.

So far TigoTago is the easiest to get access to all they ID keys along with video descriptions etc.
Grab the app from here...
http://tigotago.com/download.html

Basically the Zune uses 'MetaData' to categorise your media. Every file you sync has a tag(s) which tells the zune which folder it should be displayed in. The idea is to change these tags yourself so you can decide where each file appears on your Zune device.
The question most people are asking is "What do I change the tags to???" Read on...

(Note: Some of the tags will be already correct, like the primary tags that define type of media, most likely you will only need to change the secondary tags but they are all here anyways...)

For MUSIC Files:
Edit the meta data for your chosen file(s) and change the WM/MediaClassPrimaryID tag (located under the 'Media' heading) to

D1607DBC-E323-4BE2-86A1-48A42A28441E
(Note: 99% of the time this will be correct...and bear in mind this value is for MUSIC AUDIO ONLY, audio that is not music has another tag, see below.)

You do not need to change the WM/MediaSecondary tag.

For VIDEO Files:
First off, you have to define ALL video content as video, to do this change the WM/MediaClassPrimaryID tag (also located under the 'Media' heading) on your chosen file(s) to

DB9830BD-3AB3-4FAB-8A37-1A995F7FF74B

Now, you have to change the WM/MediaSecondaryID tag in order to specify what type of video it is, so change the tag to one of the following:

For Movies - A9B87FC9-BD47-4BF0-AC4F-655B89F7D868
For Music Videos - E3E689E2-BA8C-4330-96DF-A0EEEFFA6876
For TV Shows - BA7F258A-62F7-47A9-B21F-4651C42A000E

Example: (The correct values for me setting the video to 'Music Video'

For NON-MUSIC AUDIO (spoken word recording etc):
Now i don't know whether the Zune would use this tag or if it seperates non-music audio but here is the WM/MediaPrimaryID tag for other types of audio:

01CD0F29-DA4E-4157-897B-6275D50C4F11

----------------------------------------------------------------------

*UPDATE*

I decide to start messing about with various tags on my new video release (blatant plug - http://www.wesweatblood.co.uk/wsb3street.html  Grin) and discovered the corresponding tags to edit the Directors and Descriptions for video files. Some of you probably figured it out already but for those who havn't...

The tags you need to edit to change the Artist/Director of the video are the WM_AlbumArtist and the WM_OriginalArtist tags under the 'Misc' heading. Just enter whatever you want the artist/director to appear as on your Zune.
(Note: the bug with music videos showing "unknown artist: 2006" has not been fixed so it will still show that in the list of videos, however once M$ gets around to fixing this, they will appear.

To add a description that will appear on the Zune when you choose the video from the list, you need to edit the WM_SubTitleDescription tag under the 'Video' heading.
Just add whatever you want to describe the video.

Example: (Me adding my description for Bowling For Soup's 'London Bridge' cover video)

Make sure you save these values, as TigoTago requires you to manually save the data before it is applied.

That's it. Now as long as you have put the right tag in the right place (!) all your videos should now be organised properly. Once you've re-sync'd them to your Zune obviously (though I did read somewhere that you might have to delete them if they are already on the Zunee before you re-sync and the new data is used.)

Any questions? (Any categories I've missed or anything...?)

Hope this helps the people who are having problems...

Bii  Grin

EDIT: For a bit of reading, i used the MSDN library for the tags and other info....

I got mine to randomly work. Sad  So far I've got about 15 tv shows of Heroes Veronica Mars and Battlestar Galactica on the Zune and only a couple of the Heroes episodes gets moved into the "tv shows" category.  I can't figure out the difference, all 15 files have been copied and pasted with the right values and I've saved it.  Are there any other values that should be looked at?

Do you change/fix the tags before or after synchronizing?  I think there is a synchronization issue with the Zune software.  I've had a similar problem with MP3's.  I erased my Zune and resynced, but I don't know how you may feel about that.

yeh i think killerg is rite...i read after posting this that there was an issue with the data updating with a re-sync...so as i understand it, you change all the tags BEFORE you sync the files for the first time or to change them i think the only way atm is to delete em off your zune and re-sync the updated files...

hopefully this will be fixed soon but loooks like the only way atm

Ya, I've deleted and re-synced about 5x...same results everytime.  My biggest issue is downloaded files have huuuuge filenames (Veronicamars.1x01.blahblahblah.xvid.hdtv.lol.avi.mpeg.blahblahblah) that I've renamed and again, only the files that make into the tv show category get fixed, the others go back to the original file name.

Am I the only one that doesn't have any problems with videos?I don't have any different categories, just "All Videos".

So, do I need to update my firmware or something?

If you only see All Videos, then you do have a problem. None of your vids are organized. Download Tigotago and follow the steps. They will go back into categories.

Err, why do I have to? I don't plan on putting that many shows on my zune, and if I do I'll be fine flipping through the videos to find the show..

or does it help that much?

You don't have to if you don't want to, entirely up to you. But if you only have 'All Videos' showing and not 'Movies' and 'Music Videos' as well then something is wrong.

Thats just the standard Zune structure, dont know how its diff, but like i said up to you if you want to change.

As a side note on the original post I did, Ive had my zune for few weeks and EVRYTHING I've edited tags of BEFORE I sync'd to the Zune has been organised correctly. To re-edit tags on a couple of files I had to delete them from Zune and then re-sync with updated tags but hopefully M$ will fix this soon, if their Dashboard updates on the 360 are anything to go by then they will listen to people and the updates will happen, just maybe not as soon as everyone would like. (i.e. out of the box!  Wink)

Keep rockin' everyone!
 Kiss

EDIT: Just noticed this had been stickied! Cheers guys...

Any questions u want to ask bout this, ask them here.

Tigotago is ship, I have nearly 100 videos but I need to add certain tags one by one. Anyone know a good MetaData editor that will let me multiedit the "e3e689e2-ba8c-4330-96df-a0eeeffa6876" type tags?

hmm...i'm pretty sure any real software option atm can't batch edit, at least that I know of (correct me if i'm wrong people).

I did a quick google and came up with nothing...software wise.
The only thing i did find was over at the USGS website where a guy talks about using the language 'Tcl'. I don't know what your ability is with command prompt/languages are but its the only solution I can find atm.

this explains the ideaology:
http://geology.usgs.gov/tools/metadata/tools/doc/mq.html

this explains the method:
http://geology.usgs.gov/tools/metadata/tools/doc/mq-HOWTO.html

i havn't actually read it myself so sorry if it doesn't really help!

no problem, here to help.

if anyone from M$ around these forums, (prob not but am used to leaving messages to them on Xbox-Scene) then please add this function into Zune software, so users can organise their videos properly.

Something so small, yet so necessary!
