This your administrator Unicron Social.

We know there is a big problem with the Zune30s. Please be patient and post here if you have any updates.

Zune Tech Support
1-877-GET-ZUNE (1-877-438-9863)

DO NOT OPEN YOU ZUNES AND DO A HARD RESET, IT DOES NOT WORK.

UPDATE 823PM

My Zune 30 is frozen. What should I do?

Follow these steps:

Disconnect your Zune from USB and AC power sources.
Because the player is frozen, its battery will drain?this is good. Wait until the battery is empty and the screen goes black. If the battery was fully charged, this might take a couple of hours.
Wait until after noon GMT on January 1, 2009 (that's 7 a.m. Eastern or 4 a.m. Pacific time).
Connect your Zune to either a USB port on the back or your computer or to AC power using the Zune AC Adapter and let it charge.
Once the battery has sufficient power, the player should start normally. No other action is required?you can go back to using your Zune!

My Zune 30 has been working fine today. Should I be worried?

Nope, your Zune is fine and will continue to work as long as you do not connect it to your computer before noon GMT on January 1, 2009 (7 a.m. Eastern or 4 a.m. Pacific time).

Note: If you connect your player to a computer before noon GMT on January 1, 2009,  you'll experience the freeze mentioned above?even if that computer does not have the Zune software installed. If this happens, follow the above steps.

What if I have rights-managed (DRM) content on my Zune?

Most likely, rights-managed content will not be affected by this issue. However, it's a good idea to sync your Zune with your computer once the freeze has been resolved, just to make sure your usage rights are up to date.

What if I took advice from the forums and reset my Zune by disconnecting the battery?

This is a bad idea and we do not recommend opening your Zune by yourself (for one thing, doing so will void your warranty). However, if you've already opened it, do one of the following:

Wait 24 hours from the time that you reset the Zune and then sync with your computer to refresh the usage rights; or
Delete the player's content using the Zune software (go to Settings, Device, Sync Options, Erase All Content), then re-sync it from your collection.

Wow, I just came here to see if I can find help for this because mines just got stuck on this screen too. I was plugging in my Zune to my computer so I can put music on it about 10 min ago. It's stuck on the Zune screen and I cant do anything. Can't reset it or anything. Is there anything I can do?

Mines was almost fully charged when I was looking at it a few hours ago so I doubt thats the problem. My screen is lit up with the Zune screen. It's just not responding.

I did a google search and some people said they just let the battery drain and then charge it and start it again and it will work so I will try that and hopefully it would work again.

This is happening everywhere, guys.
DO NOT LINK IT TO THE COMPUTER!
I've heard unconfirmed reports of the software cleaning out itself due to this bug.
I have a Halo 3 30GB... I wanna cry. Sad

Possibly a troll... but just to be safe.
*Edit
Can't find source, I think a biased mod deleted it.
Sorry guys...

But, the less power it has, the less HDD wear.. so let it die.

Ok so I was reading on Zune.net and apparently this has happened to people even if they didnt plug it up to the computer or have wireless on. It happened to everyone at the same time. This really sucks. And I have to take a 2 hour train ride tomorrow and will be pissed if I don't have something to listen to. Makes me wish I had my ipod as backup.

Ok, and I let my battery drain and I tried charging it again to see if it would work and I get the same problem. Grrr.

Guys... I've been having problems with my Zune since I upgraded t to 3.0...
I've had this same problem happen before... but not permanently.
Basically, I think it could be that M$ unintentionally bricked the 30s when they installed the clock.
A sort of timebomb effect, if you will.

Wow, same thing just happened to me couple of hours ago.

I was listening to a podcast on my 30, then it stopped. Look at the screen, it was rebooting, then everything just froze when the loading bar is full. Tried all the keypad combination to restart, nothing worked.

I'm letting it to drain all the battery power out and recharge it later and see if that would work. Will report back.

EDIT:
Just went to the Zune.net forums, it seems like this is happening to a lot of Zune 30s (maybe all) around the same time. Here's one possible fix, requires dissemble:

Just for the clarification: I am a Microsoft Fanboy, I will shamelessly praise their products. However, I will not bash other products produced by other companies.
