Thanks for the warning. I won't update my daughters 8gb. Unless, will I be forced to? Will it still sync if I don't? I haven't tried it yet.
You shouldn't have a problem if you choose not to update. If you get an update notification screen in the software, it specifically states that the update is optional. My 4gb is synching normally even though I skipped the update. Did have a minor scare updating my wife's pink 30gb Zune. Had the update abort on step 2 or 3 for some reason, and the device was stuck on the step 2 screen. A quick reboot of the device & fresh attempt to update the firmware worked, though.

I have a zune flash 8gb.
the new update this morning fixes gapless! however...huge problem: i can't play albums straight thru. the sound will be gapless, but the next song will still show the previous song's name and the time will go beyond the runtime, like it forgot to switch over. After the second song is done, it will be quiet, until I hit the ff button. Thus unfortunately makes it impossible to listen to full albums.
basically, any fixes? how to downgrade to 3.1? I really want gapless, but not at this cost. I'm using nero aac files vbr, either 0.45 or 0.55
just tested it...mp3 files work fine. the problem is isolated is aac files.
i sm hsving the exact same issue when playing aac files. wonder if there is any way of downgrade to firmware 3.1.

I had a hard time with the second update on my Z120GB...lasted about an hour and only made as far as step 3/4... a white screen of death was on for more than 30min, so i unplugged it without finishing the update ( i know you are not supposed to do that ) and honestly i thought it died and everything got deleted. Tried every single button combination to reset, restart, reboot and nothing...holding back arrow and up with hold "on"... brought my player back to life ...That was a close one... (and nothing was deleted)

well I decided to install 3.2 on my 80 gb and sadly it ruined it. first none of my songs would play. so I decided to clear it and sync it again, now it only adds 1989 out of my 3097 songs. any help would be appreciated.

This is interesting. Below is an image of my Zune 120 on the left and Zune 30 on the right. The 120 has the 3.2 firmware. The 30 has the 3.1 firmware. It looks like the resolution on the 3.2 firmware has been downgraded. Almost like looking through a screen door. I contacted Zune support and they were able to duplicate this. Anyone notice this?

This is a strange one. I updated my 120 to 3.2 and haven't noticed any change in the display. Of course I can't do a side by side comparison to the old firmware. Did Zune support have any answers?
