I wrote this guide on how to convert DVDs to the Zune using free software.  Every step it detailed with screenshots.

Please read it here:

I would love some feedback.  Grin

Edit: I noticed that two other guides were made sticky.  I was wondering if this one could be made sticky also.  This forum is the only place I have posted the guide and it would make it much more worth the time it took to make it if it didn't sink pages into the forum.

What is the estimated time to convert.  I have been using DvD  Dcrypter to rip the vob file aprox 10 minutes.  Then using Super to convert to a MP4 and it is taking forever.

Depends on a lot of things.  The CPU, RAM, all the other hardware inside the computer, and the length of the movie.  You actually end up doing two conversions.  All in all it takes about an hour.  I don't know of a way to go from VOB right to WMV.

Ok

I have 3.2 Dual Core, with 2 Gigs of ram, the movie is an hour and 4 minutes long.  It is not taking me very much time to rip the DVD to my drive but super is taking roughly 3 hours to convert it to the MP4.  I checked and folks are say it should be about an hour.

I just reread your post.  Yea way shorter then 3 hours.  I did everything in less then an hour.  VOB to AVI took half an hour.  AVI to WMV took another half an hour.

I have a overclocked Athlon 4000+ and 2 gigs of ram.

Odly right after I made that post Super had an error, I went in and played the file and it worked fine, moved it to the zune software an it is converting as I type, should be less than 15 minutes to convert in the zune software total time should be aprox 1.5 hours now.  I did have a typo in my above post the move is 1 hour 55 minutes.

Was it listed or did you need to download the codec?  If it was not listed I'll add a link to a codec pack.  I just thought that since it is a microsoft codec it was included in Windows.
