I love music me..... Hence me importing a Zune!  Grin

Anyways, for all you fellow music lovers, here's how to enhance your Zune by adding official videos and live performances from your favourite artists to your playlist.
I just added the whole set of Incubus' exclusive live set for Nissan!

Right, first things first, grab yourself the following software, all free of course!

VideoLanClient:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ - available for virtually any OS

LyFox: (props to FernyB here!)
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Other-VIDEO-Tools/LyFOX.shtml - Windows/Mac

Now, bascially it involves using LyFox to grab the MMS tag from launch.yahoo.com and then using VLCs ability to dump raw stream data to save it directly into a WMV that can be played by your Zune. If you don't know what MMS is or anything don't worry, you don't need to.
Bear in mind that Yahoo don't have EVERY video around but they have most and they have some awesome exclusive live sets, like the incubus one!

Step 1:
Run LyFox.exe. Make sure you all connected up to the worldwidewibble...

Step 2:

Type the artist you are looking for into the 'Artist Search' text box at the top of the window. You can either hit RETURN or click the little refresh arrow next to it to start the search.

Step 3:

You'll see a list of videos like above when i searched for Incubus if your search was successfull. Remember to spell correctly!
Note: If there are no videos by your artist then nothing will be listed!

Step 4:

Click the little down arrow at the bottom-right of the window to expand the Video Details window.

Double click on the video you wish to download from the list, its info will be displayed in the Video Details window.

I think by default the stream info shown is always for the highest quality, and tbh this is the one you should choose, (as long as its not more than 768k) but if you want a lower quality for whatever reason just select a different Stream from the box to the right and the Info will be refreshed.

Then click the little 'C' button on the left and the MMS address will be copied to your clipboard. Now it's time for VLC...

Step 5:
Open VLC, and choose File> Open Network Stream...

Select 'HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS' from the list and paste your video's MMS address from your clipboard into the URL box. It should be copied into the 'Customize' box at the bottom of the window automatically.

Check the box next to 'Stream/Save' and then click 'Settings...'

In the Stream Output window, make sure that the output 'File' is ticked, along with 'Dump raw input'.
Then click Browse to choose a location to save the file, just like in explorer.

When done, click OK. Click OK again on the Open Network Stream Window and VLC will start to save the stream. It plays through the video and saves in real-time so it will take however long your chosen video is in length.
NOTE: You will not see/hear anything while it saves, it does not PLAY the file, only SAVES it...only the progress bar and duration clock will move while it saves.

Once it has finished you can just close VLC and you should have your saved video wherever you chose to save it. All you have to do is change the extension (it won't have one, it'll just be labelled 'file') to .wmv and it is ready to be added to your library and sync'd straight to your Zune, no convert required!

Easy or what...start building your collection!

Ciao

Quick add-on note...

FernyB says over on his blog that Yahoo have switched some video streams over to FlashVideo (like YouTube).

Currently Yahoo Launch still uses wmv so THIS METHOD STILL WORKS FINE.

If they switch over to .flv then this guide won't work, but FernyB says he's workin on a .flv alternative so dont worry too much!

1 brown and 2 black, i was the last to order and we made a deal to all get different colours... but i couldn't order white :S just couldn't do it Tongue

I've read the guide by the eyeballer (and the subsequent problems people had!) i installed all the pre-requisites and encoded a MPG > WMV which worked perfectly, aside from Zune Software performing another 'conversion'

More guides would defo be helpful Smiley

okay, well i wasn't gonna post it now as EyeBallers has been stickied but I'll post a cut down version, maybe no screens or only a few...along with my WindowsMediaEncoder guide to convert incompatible WMVs to Zune playable WMVs.

Seeing as you asked so nicely  Grin

Awesome tutorial! I wish the zune had 10 times the storage capacity and replace all the plain music in my zune with all it's music video counterparts.

Actually, how can you be St. Jimmy if you're name is Chris Simmons?

An additional tip to save time: When you save the filename for the video include the .WMV extension after the filename so all you have to do after that is run the zune software to sync

He says that in the tutorial.
